Healing the Mind and Body
Many of us are stuck in the past, which means we’re locked in dysfunctional patterns. Those patterns are physical and emotional; brain research and neuroscience have shown us how closely body and mind are connected. Wendy helps you become more aware of those patterns in your mind and your body to improve self-regulation – not auto-revert to unsuccessful patterns.
Overcoming the Overwhelming
Somatic Experiencing ™(SE) maintains that the traumatic event isn’t what caused the trauma, it’s the unaddressed ‘overwhelm’ response. SE offers a framework to assess exactly where you are stuck in the fight/flight/freeze responses, then works to gently increase tolerance for difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions.
Wendy is familiar with a range of therapeutic techniques, staying abreast of the latest findings on how our brains and bodies operate.
In 15 years as a counsellor, Wendy has worked with individuals, couples, adolescents and families, dealing with issues ranging from divorce to destructive relationships to the death of a loved one. She’s helped people to overcome anxiety, depression, developmental trauma and PTSD. Wendy employs a range of therapies, dependent on you and the nature of your issue. As a life-long learner, she is continually incorporating new modalities into her practice.
Wendy employs Somatic Experiencing™ to relax and settle the nervous system, attune to the body and heal trauma.
A unique aspect of Wendy’s offerings is the innovative approach of Somatic Experiencing™. Somatic Experience (SE) is a body-oriented approach to the healing of trauma and other stress disorders.
Somatic Experiencing is the life work of Dr. Peter Levine, who holds a doctorate in medical biophysics from the University of California-Berkeley and one in psychology from International University. SE is the result of decades of study of stress physiology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices and medical biophysics – together with 45 years of successful clinical work. By renegotiating unhealthy reactions and patterns, you’ll move to better self-regulation and resiliency. Simply put, you’ll no longer be stuck in the past. From this, freedom comes.
Whether you’re new to therapy or not, you want to find that fit, the professional that feels right for you.
Many of Wendy’s clients are surprised at how restorative it is to simply spend an hour in her office. The feeling of safety, acceptance, and calm – the safe space – helps her clients to find the courage they need to move to a new way of seeing and being. You’ll work together to renegotiate old emotional and physical patterns that aren’t serving you well.
